Dr Ashok Erramilli
Adjunct
Ashok Erramilli has been a serial entrepreneur, founding several startups that specialize in developing solutions that apply the latest research to solve real world engineering problems. He has been the Chief Technical Officer of Optessa Inc since 2003, designing an optimization engine that can be applied to a wide range of combinatorial optimization problems with applications in networking and manufacturing. The Optessa scheduling system has been implemented at some of the world¹s largest manufacturers, including Honda, Ford and Chrysler, delivering significant operational efficiencies.
He served as an expert witness in an important patent case involving MPLS and developed feature specifications for broadband and 3G network performance management systems. Prior to that he was the founder and President of Qnetworx Inc, a network consulting company that worked with numerous start ups and Fortune 500 companies to develop broadband and wireless network engineering and management solutions. He worked at Bellcore (now Telcordia) for 9 years before that, specializing in the engineering of the full range of networking technologies and products, and pioneering the applications of emerging mathematical methods such as chaotic maps, fractal processes and combinatorial optimization in network analysis. He headed Bellcore's research program in network analysis and design in 1994 to 1996.
Prior to this, he worked at ITT Advanced Technology Center between 1983 to 1986, designing high speed packet switching systems.
Ashok obtained his M.S. and PhD in Electrical Engineering from Yale University in 1981 and 1984 respectively, and before that his B.E. in Electrical Communication Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science in 1980. He has authored over 35 papers in the field of networking, and has worked as a Visiting Professor at KTH Sweden in 1993, and at RMIT in 1999.
His research interests include Distributed Decision Making, Information Theory, Network Design, and Programming.
